1. Hubs and I were engaged after just ONE date! We met in Alaska, talked on the phone for about 6 months, saw one another for about 12 hours where he met my family, and were engaged the next day on an airplane somewhere between Baton Rouge and Dallas.
2. My first year teaching was in Tacoma, Washington. One day on the way home I was sitting at a red light (right next door to my school) when all of a sudden 5 unmarked police cars pulled up, cops jumped out and pulled guns and pointed them at the store right where I was sitting. Needless to say, I ran the red light.
3. That same year, I experience a 7.5 earthquake during the school day. It was quite terrifying given the fact that we lived at the base of Mt. Rainier.
4. I live in the South, but I think I was misplaced. If given a choice as to where I would live, I would choose the Oregon coast hands down.
New Year's Resolutions Linky
My blog friend, Amanda, over at Teaching Maddeness is hosting a New Year's Resolution linky this week. Like her, I normally don't make resolutions. I have a very difficult time keeping them. I am really good for a few days, but then I completely fall off of the wagon. But, I do a little goal setting for the new school year.
This year I plan to...
1. Disconnect by 7:00 pm each night. I have a bad habit of staying on the computer, iPad, etc. until it is time to go to bed. This year, I am planning on unplugging early to spend quality time with the hubs.
2. Leave the building by 5:30 pm. I did NOT do this last year. My day began EARLY - I was in the building at 6:30 and very often stayed until almost 7 and sometimes later. Terrible, terrible, terrible! I had NO life last year. I plan on reclaiming it this year. That means working smarter.
3. Do ALL Grading in the building. This may be hard for me to do, but I plan on maximizing all of my time - all of those planning periods, early mornings, etc.
I refuse to make any more than 3 because that is just too many for me to handle. Join us over at Amanda's to share your resolutions.
Thanks for joining the linky, Shasta! I LOVE your 7:00pm rule! I may need to borrow that! :) I'm good about leaving school early so I can hit the gym, but that just means I bring it ALL home!
ReplyDeleteHow crazy is it that you were engaged after ONE date!! I love that story! :)

Cool story about you and your hubby! I need to unplug before 8:00. Sometimes I'm on the computer til 11 or 12 on a school night.
ReplyDeleteGreat resolutions! I especially like the one about leaving by 5:30...I need to make sure and do the same thing.
ReplyDeleteI found your blog through the linky...I'm a new follower!

Love reading about you! You certainly live an exciting life! I can't imagine getting to school so early and staying so long! I hope you keep your resolution to leave by 5:30! After a long day of chasing students and redirecting them, I leave at 3:30 but with a bag full of take home work (that I usually bring back to school untouched the next day!) I'm your newest follower.

I also love the 7 o'clock rule. I can't tell you how many nights I spend on the computer working on things. I think having a laptop makes that easier to do since I can move my laptop while I watch tv.

Your 7 o'clock rule is perfect! I found myself on the computer so late and being tired the next morning! I'm definitely going to remember that one!! I'm also a new follower :)

Love the idea of a 7 o'clock rule! I always bring way to much work home and then become resentful when I sit down to do it. Having an end time is an excellent idea!!
ReplyDeleteGreat post today. I so need to follow your "unplug it rule." My poor honey has been hanging all by his lonesome much too often as of late :). And, I heart me some Oregon too. I am down in Northern California and we try to get up to Portland at least once a year! I wish we lived there. Glad I found ya today.

I like your unplugging rule. I don't usually get on the computer until 9:00 when I put the boys to bed, dinner, homework and activities are over:) Perhaps I should give myself a time limit.
ReplyDeleteI found our blog on the New School Year Resolutions Linky and am your newest follower.
